Post A Letter? A Nice Idea For A Cat Toy As Gift

The US currency print fabric I'd gotten from JoAnn Fabrics had a number of partial bills along the edge that were not able to be cut and made into whole 'bills' as cat toys, but I saved those pieces for something else.  I decided to use them as bills tucked into a fake envelope along with a red felt heart, and used some scratch paper to design the whole thing.

This is the fabric -- http://www.joann.com/novelty-cotton-fabric-tossed-money/7745870.html?gclid=CJL_6rmdxdQCFQiLaQod4yUCBA

They were remarkably easy to make - an envelope with the idea of 'love or money'.  Inside each is a 2" red heart, and a bill that's at least 50% there.

The money was done the same way as I did the other bills off that fabric print, with a green polar fleece back.  They were sewn, turned and some catnip was tucked inside and the final seam closed on the sewing machine.

The hearts were cut from red felt, stuffed with bits of fiberfil wrapped around catnip and the final edge closed on the machine. I didn't need to turn them right side out, felt is easily sewn on the outside all by itself. I trimmed the edges to make them look nice and clean/sharp.

The envelope was originally going to be made out of white felt but it was too flimsy all by itself. I cut a second identical piece out of white polar fleece and that gave it enough of a stiffness with the two layers.  They were sewn together (a long rectangle 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" with a triangular top 2" up at the peak) without needing to be turned. I trimmed the edges. Then found a used stamp and trimmed around the stamp with a scissors, machine sewed that down on the front.  For an 'address' I cut out a tiny red heart from felt and did a few stitches to tack that in place as the address on the front.  Then I folded the triangular piece back and sewed a stitch line to have it bend backwards.  Then all it took to finish the envelope was to fold the bottom up to the stitch line I'd just done and so a line of stitching down each side of the envelope.

Viola!  Tuck in the heart and the money and you have a great looking cat toy in three pieces.  They look very cute.
