New Cat Toy Design

I found a great green with gold accent fabric at JoAnn's earlier this week and designed a pear cat toy. The thing turned out super easy to make and looks great. The stems had to be done first, that required stitching long lines on doubled pieces of dark green felt, then cutting close to the stitch line to make long strands of thick green 'stems', and then cutting them into 1 1/2 inch sections. Each stem was sewn into the pear as I did the main stitching on the machine, leaving the bottom of the pear open.

Then it was just turn and stuff, adding catnip. The wide bottom was gather stitched, pulled tight, and stitched in place with a few tacking stitches in the center. They make really nice looking Green Anjou pears. If I can find the right tan/ruddy color brown I can also do Bosc pears too. I didn't want to try the red ones as they'd look like misshapen apples or mangos.

Simple and easy, that's the way to go!
